Nerdy Girlz Book Club
Meet the volunteerz that help with the book club meetings! They bring not only their smiles but their help in making sure the club runs smoothly. We could not run the meetings without them!
Destini Steeples
Destini De'Shay Steeples was born in St. Louis MO. She is 24 years old and is the half sister of Kennedy. She graduated from the Hazelwood School District in June 2016 with a major in Science.
Destini wants to continue her education to become a Family Therapist in the near future.
Her hobbies include hanging out with her family/friends, shopping, dancing, skating and reading.
As a young child, Destini started doing Ballet at the age of 3, she continued dancing at St. Louis Dancers Academy doing, tap, jazz, lyrical, praise, hip-hop and tumbling until she broke her leg at age 9. That didn't stop her because she later became a dancer for one of St. Louis' own Majorette Dance teams.
Destini loves to help motivate the young ladies in the book club to become more vocal and to promote them to read and have fun while doing so. Now Destini is a mother of a beautiful daughter named Aubrie Claire!
Nialah Dumas
Nialah Z. Dumas is 22 and was born in St. Louis MO. She is a graduate of Hazelwood School District and was considered to join the Honors Society where she holds a 3.4 GPA.
She has always been eager to learn new things. She enjoys drawing, journalingl and reading. Nialah was a former dancer in one of St. Louis'Majorette Dance teams.
She is now working part-time and has graduates high school in 2019, Nialah is currently in college and she pursuing her dreams of being a Fashion Designer.
She loves to spend time with her immediate family. When she gets older, she would love to travel to places such as Paris in France, Africa and various other countries.
Nialah enjoys R.L. Stein and Steven King books; her favorite books are the Goosebumps series.
Her dedication and main focus for NGBC is to help inspire the young ladies to read more and to have a great time while doing so at the meetings.
She enjoys working with smaller children, to help motivate and promote literacy.
Taylor Martin
Taylor Alexis Martin was born in St. Louis, MO to David and Kendra Martin. She has one older brother, Zachary. She is also the godsister of Kennedy.
She graduated from Rosati-Kain College Prepatory High School in May 2016. She's a graduate of Xavier University;
Taylor volunteers for the YMCA as a youth counselor While there, she organizes activities and games for children that attend the program.
Taylor loves time with family especially with her grandparents. She also enjoys playing sports such as softball, track and soccer. Her hobbies are painting and reading.
Her vision for the book club is to ensure that the girls make adequate time for reading and she wants to help promote literacy which will further their education in learning.
Her favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
Jada Thompson
Jada A. Thompson is 25 and was born in St. Louis, MO where she currently resides. She is the half sister of Kennedy R. Thompson.
She graduated from Hazelwood School District in 2015 where her major was Creative Writing. Jada wants to pursue her career as a beautician and make-up artist.
She has 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She loves family time, writing short stories, and reading and writing poems. She spend most of her time doing internet research on methods to perfect her talent as a hair stylist and painting.
She enjoys Neo Soul music and loves to sing. At any time, you can expect Jada to break out in different harmonies.
Jada enjoys nature and exotic pets.
She loves volunteering for the book club because not only is it fun but it is very beneficial to the young ladies in the group.
Jada's favorite book is called Flyy Girl by Omar Tyree.
Aiyana Jheri Taylor
Aiyana Jheri Taylor is 24 and was born and raised in St. Louis, MO.
She graduated from McCluer North in the top 15% of her class.
Aiyana was a very dedicated cheerleader, thespian, DECA member, and Student Council member. She is continuing her education, and is majoring in Theatre.
Being a volunteer for the book club means a lot to her because she gets help young black girls who love reading, and teach that being smart is a very good thing. She is really proud to be a part of this great club!
One of Aiyana's favorite books is I'd Tell You I Love You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter.
